An Iowa City man has been sentenced on charges that he provided drugs and alcohol to a minor before having sex with the girl.
The Johnson County Attorney’s Office says 47-year-old Robert Seals of the Lake Ridge manufactured housing community was found guilty of 2nd Degree Sexual Abuse of a Child last Friday. Seals faces a sentence of up to 25 years in prison with a mandatory minimum of 17.5 years. Seals was found not guilty of a related charge of Distribution of a Controlled Substance to a Person Under Age 18, which is a Class B Felony punishable by up to 25 years in prison.
The charges stem from a November 2022 incident in which Seals and 28-year-old Stephen Ross picked up a 13-year-old girl at a convenience store, provided her with drugs and alcohol, and forced her to have sex with them.
Seals is scheduled to be sentenced on November 7th. Ross pleaded guilty to Lascivious Acts with a Child and is currently serving up to ten years in prison.
