A Minnesota man faces a lengthy prison sentence after a traffic stop led to authorities finding a firearm and multiple drugs.
An Iowa State Trooper stopped 46-year-old Taylor Swartwood of White Bear Lake as he was heading northbound on Highway 218 the morning of Saturday October 11th. He was reportedly clocked going 95 miles an hour, 30 miles over the posted speed limit.
Swartwood was unsteady on his feet and showed impairment on field sobriety tests. A PBT showed no alcohol in his system, and Swartwood allegedly terminated a DRE evaluation. He also refused a urine sample.
A post-arrest search of his person allegedly turned up a white powdery substance suspected to be cocaine, and a small container of suspected meth was also found. Two glass pipes for smoking meth were found in the vehicle. Swartwood reportedly admitted to smoking marijuana at about 2 am.
Three locked safes were found in the vehicle, and a search warrant was granted to search their contents. Troopers allegedly located a loaded Taurus .357 revolver, 34 grams of meth, 3 grams of crack cocaine, 1 gram of marijuana, and pills not prescribed to Swartwood. 7 cell phones, 6 flashdrives, and a laptop were also found, and a warrant to search their contents is pending.
Swartwood was taken into custody and charged with OWI first offense, a Class B controlled substance violation, two counts of possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of prescription drugs, failure to affix tax stamp, possession of a firearm while intoxicated, and possession of drug paraphernalia. If convicted on all counts, Swartwood faces over 34 years in prison.
