A weekend overnight fire sent one Cedar Rapids resident to the hospital.
According to a release from the Cedar Rapids Fire Department, crews were dispatched to the 100 block of 30th Street NE Sunday at 4:14 am on reports of a fire in a home. Upon arrival, firefighters found a residence with smoke coming from the interior of the home. There were five occupants of the home at the time and and all exited safely. One occupant was treated on scene and transported to a local hospital for evaluation.
The structure suffered significant fire and smoke damage to a first-floor bedroom. It’s unsure whether smoke alarms were functioning at the time of the incident.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
