A Cedar Rapids man was arrested last week on charges that he broke into the site of a future senior living community and stole a golf simulator worth more than $10,000, and about $7,000 worth of tools.
The Gazette reports 28-year-old Kevin Untiedt broke into Aura Independent Living in Cedar Rapids, a senior living center owned by Nelson Construction and Development that is scheduled to open sometime this fall.
He was captured on surveillance video entering the business on Saturday October 4th and stealing the tools and golf simulator. When he was arrested on Friday he had a handgun and marijuana in his possession.
Untiedt was charged with first-degree theft, second-degree theft and third-degree burglary. He’s also facing charges of possession of a firearm by a domestic abuse offender, person ineligible to carry dangerous weapons, and possession of marijuana.
Untiedt also has been charged with another count of third-degree burglary from a September incident where he was seen on surveillance video entering a locked parking ramp for residents of NewBo Lofts and leaving with a backpack that looked like one belonging to a resident of the apartment building.
If convicted on all counts, Untiedt could be sentenced to up to 32 years in prison.
