A Waterloo woman was arrested on warrants stemming from a May incident where she was among a group of people who allegedly committed thefts at Coralville businesses.

Police say the incidents occurred May 1st on the 2500 block of Corridor Way.  They were called to a report of theft in progress, and loss prevention staff pointed out a group of individuals who were around a vehicle that they arrived in, one of which was 19-year-old Ja’Mesha Simpson of Langley Road in Waterloo.  A search of the vehicle allegedly found stolen merchandise from two stores in the front seat, back seat, and trunk.  About $55 was reportedly taken from one store, and over $620 from the other.

Judge Deborah Minot signed out a warrant for Simpson’s arrest on May 15th. She was charged with 4th and 5th degree theft, and faced up to 13 months in prison if convicted.  This week, the lesser charge was held open for review, while Simpson was released on her own recognizance on the 4th degree theft charge. A public defender was appointed to represent her.
