An area transient who missed a case management conference date and had a warrant for his arrest attempted to hide his identity when he came in contact with officers Monday.
Police located 35-year-old Joshua Jones at the Kum & Go on the Coralville Strip just after 4pm. When asked to identify himself, he allegedly gave a completely false name and date of birth that was approximately 4 years before he was born.
Once positively identified, Jones reportedly admitted to trying to hide his true identity.
The transient was wanted for missing a Case Management Conference in regards to Forgery, Unauthorized use of a Credit Card, and 3rd degree Theft charges from December 2023. The warrant was issued on September 12th, 2024 and Jones remained at large until Monday’s incident.
If convicted on all charges, Jones faces up to twelve years in prison.
