A Cedar Rapids apartment building was evacuated Wednesday night on reports of carbon monoxide in an apartment.
According to a release from the city’s Fire Department, a crew was dispatched to the 200 block of 1st Avenue West just before 10:15 pm. Upon investigation and air monitoring, varying levels of carbon monoxide were discovered on all floors of the apartment building. Additional crews were called in to evacuate the residents and confirm the source of the carbon monoxide.
The Fire Department used high power fans to ventilate the stairs, the hallways, and each apartment. Residents were then allowed to return to the building. No illnesses were reported.
The leak was determined to be unintentional.
