An Iowa City man was arrested after an investigation reportedly discovered he used credit cards contained in a wallet he stole.
38-year-old Darryl Minniefield of the Town and Campus Apartments on Arthur Street was at the Laundromania on Lower Muscatine Road the evening of September 27th. He allegedly opened the backpack of another person and removed a wallet contained within. He then left the business.
On October 23rd, Minniefield was reportedly seen on security video walking into Top Shape Gym on South First Avenue. While there, he allegedly stole a black Guess wallet worth $150 located in the locker room. He then went to the 1st Avenue HyVee and the nearby Walgreens and CVS drug stores and reportedly used the victim’s debit cards. In total, Minniefield spent over $130.
A warrant was issued for his arrest, and MInniefield was taken into custody Thursday evening. He faces four counts of Unauthorized Use of a Credit Card and two counts of 3rd degree Theft. If convicted on all charges, Minniefield could be sentenced to up to 14 years in prison.
