An Iowa man has been arrested after allegedly cashing a forged check earlier this year.
Police say 40-year-old Christopher Maestas of Olin walked into the Swisher branch of Central State Bank the afternoon of May 14th and cashed a check written to himself for over $2500. The check was later found to be fraudulently manufactured, and the business did not knowingly write it.
The check was successfully cashed and Maestas walked out of the bank with the money.
A warrant for his arrest was issued June 17th, and he remained at large until he was booked into the Johnson County Jail early Tuesday morning. He faces one count each of Forgery and 2nd Degree Theft. If convicted on both charges, Maestas could be sentenced to up to ten years in prison.
