No charges will be filed in connection with a fatal Coralville shooting case.
The Johnson County Attorney’s Office and the Coralville Police Department issued a joint news release Friday stating Johnson County Attorney Rachel Zimmermann Smith will not be filing charges stemming from an incident that occurred in the Western Hills Estates manufactured housing community just before midnight on June 11th. An investigation determined that 27-year-old Mason Edwards had forced his way into the residence of 28-year-old Michelle Jenkins-Robertson and assaulted her. Jenkins-Robertson fired several shots at Edwards in self-defense. She told investigators that Edwards had a history of domestic violence against her. Edwards was pronounced dead at the scene.
Toxicology tests indicated that his blood alcohol concentration was .230 at the time of the break-in.
Zimmermann Smith said the ensuing investigation determined that there was not enough evidence to show that lethal force was not justified.
