An early Saturday morning traffic stop near Hills has led to weapons and impaired driving charges  against a Des Moines County man.

A Johnson County deputy pulled over 27-year-old Tyrance Campbell of Burlington for speeding at 2:45 a.m. on Highway 218 southbound just north of the Hills exit. There was reportedly a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle, and deputies say Campbell had bloodshot eyes and showed signs of impairment. A search of Campbell’s 2025 Honda Civic allegedly turned up a loaded Glock 23 with an extended magazine.

Campbell was arrested and charged with Person Ineligible to Carry Dangerous Weapons and Operating While Under the Influence. If convicted on both counts, he faces a maximum of two years in jail.
