A Cedar Rapids man has been taken into custody after an alleged assault in Tiffin.

Deputies were dispatched to a residence at around 1:15 am Sunday on reports of a fight in progress.  Upon arrival, a female was reportedly heard yelling from inside the apartment for help.  After repeated knockings, 31-year-old Zacary Beguhn of A Avenue NE answered the door.  Deputies detained him, and both parties were questioned.

The victim stated that she and Beguhn were in an intimate relationship and he slapped her in the face.  The woman told deputies that she was fearful for her safety and worried about retaliation from Beguhn.

The victim was reportedly observed with redness on her face and a small bruise over her left eye.

Beguhn was arrested and charged with Domestic Assault causing Injury, a serious misdemeanor punishable by a maximum sentence of a year in jail.

A no-contact order was requested.
