An Iowa City man stopped for an alleged shoplifting incident was arrested Tuesday.

Officers were called to the Iowa City Walmart on Highway 1 West just before 6:45pm on reports of shoplifting. They made contact with 22-year-old Wyatt Baldwin of Thistle Court, who was identified as having outstanding warrants.

Upon search incident to arrest, officers located a silver container with suspected heroin inside, and Baldwin allegedly admitted it was heroin.  He also was reportedly found with a “one-hitter” used for smoking the drug with burnt residue inside.

Baldwin was wanted on two Lottery Theft charges from September 14th. He was allegedly in the back office area of the Casey’s on Scott Court, allowed in by a family member who was working at the time. While there, Baldwin allegedly took a book of 30 lottery tickets and concealed it in his bag.

Baldwin returned to the store a few days later and returned 27 of the tickets to a manager, and reportedly said his family member had nothing to do with the theft. The tickets had already been scratched and were therefore unable to be sold.

He was charged with two counts of Lottery Fraud and faces up to ten years in prison if convicted. The drug possession charges come with a potential additional sentence of 25 months.
