A traffic stop on an equipment violation has led to the arrest of a wanted Iowa City woman.
Police stopped 56-year-old Rene Rohrbacher Drain of South Governor Street just before 10pm Monday on the 300 block of South Lucas Street. She was a passenger in the stopped vehicle and the officer immediately recognized her from prior investigations and knew she had multiple felony warrants for her arrest.
The officer asked Drain for her name and she allegedly provided a fictitious one.
As the officer was confirming the warrants were still active, Drain reportedly fled from the scene and took off running. After a brief chase, she was apprehended in a nearby yard and resisted handcuffing.
A search incident to arrest allegedly discovered a hot crack pipe and a small shard of meth located inside her bra. After being read her rights, Drain reportedly admitted to using the crack pipe shortly before the traffic stop.
She was charged with meth possession, possession of drug paraphernalia, providing false identification, and interference with official acts. If convicted on all counts, Drain could be sentenced to up to 15 months in jail.
