A Cedar Rapids woman has been arrested after an investigation determined she was under the influence of alcohol when she crashed her vehicle at Lake Macbride this summer.

A Department of Natural Resources ranger was on patrol the afternoon of August 10th when he was notified of a single vehicle accident near the Coralville Lake Boat Ramp.  Upon arrival, a vehicle was found in the ditch on Lake Macbride Dam Road, with heavy front end damage.  Two women were observed outside the vehicle, with two more inside. One of the passengers was trapped between the front and rear seats with significant injuries.

One of the women outside the vehicle was identified as 24-year-old Olivia McKiernan of F Avenue Northwest.  She allegedly admitted to going too fast and failed to negotiate the corner.  McKiernan reportedly had glassy eyes and had a hard time controlling her emotions.

All four women were transported to the University of Iowa Hospital Campus in Iowa City for treatment. A subsequent search of the vehicle allegedly found a marijuana roach, THC wax, a full bottle of alcohol in the front passenger area and an empty bottle behind the rear passenger area.

A blood draw was taken, and McKiernan’s blood-alcohol level was measured at .092 percent.  She was also in possession of THC, Cocaine, Methamphetamine and Clonazepam in her bloodstream.

A state trooper was given permission to read the onboard computer of the vehicle and reportedly found McKiernan was going 61 miles per hour in a 20MPH zone,  slowed to 40 miles per hour a half second before impact, and was still going 29 miles per hour at impact.

A warrant was issued October 16th, and McKiernan was arrested Wednesday. She faces charges of OWI second offense, reckless driving and speeding. If convicted on the OWI charge, McKiernan could be sentenced to up to two years in jail.
