The Iowa Hawkeye defense held Oregon to just 18 points, but the final three were the game winner as the Ducks came away with an 18-16 victory.
Oregon began the scoring after a wide snap got kicked out of bounds by punter Rhys Dakin, causing a safety.  Dierre Hill scored to start the second quarter to put Oregon up 9-0; Iowa was able to get a touchdown to close the gap, but an Atticus  Sappington field goal as time ran out in the first half left the Hawks down 12-5.
The only scoring in the third quarter came at the end, with Sappington nailing a 40-yard field goal to make the score 15-7 Ducks.
Drew Stevens brought the crowd to its feet with a Kinnick record-tying 58 yard field goal early in the final quarter.
Mark Gronowski gave the Hawks the lead in the 4th quarter with under 2 minutes to play with a 3-yard touchdown run, but Kamari Moulton’s catch of a two-point conversion pass that would have increased the lead to 3 points landed him just inches out of bounds.
With 1:51 left, Oregon marched down the field and won the game with a 39-yard Sappington field goal.
Iowa held Oregon to 100 yards of total offense below their season average, and held quarterback Dante Moore to just 112 yards passing. Gronowski threw for 138 yards, going 10 for 18.
The Hawkeyes fall to 6-3 on the year; they play at USC next Saturday at 2:30pm. The game will be televised by either CBS or the Big Ten Network.
