US Representative Mariannette Miller-Meeks is holding her first in person town hall since being re-elected, after months of public pressure to live up to her pledge to do so earlier this year.
The Gazette reports her office announced Sunday morning that the town hall will take place at 2 p.m. today at Roberts Memorial Center in Keosauqua. The event will be moderated by Kadie Johansson, general manager of KILJ AM/FM Radio, and is open to residents of Iowa’s 1st Congressional District.
Recently, Miller-Meeks has opted for telephone or radio forums instead of meeting her constituents in person. Her office reported that she held a telephone town hall on October 15th that had 10,700 participants, and did a radio town hall last week with conservative radio host Simon Conway.
Miller-Meeks has defended the strategy, claiming that the formats allow her to reach more people. She also says she’s available during public events like rotary meetings, county fairs, and the Iowa State Fair.
The newspaper also says the debate over Miller-Meeks’ accessibility reignited after CNN reported last month that she told attendees at a Johnson County Republicans meeting in August she would hold a town hall “when hell freezes over.”
Miller-Meeks faces a potential rematch with Democrat Christina Bohannan, who lost the last election by about 800 votes. Pundits have categorized the 2026 race for the seat as a toss-up.
