A sword-wielding suspect has been given a ten-day jail sentence by a Johnson County judge.
Court records show Judge Jason Burns sentenced 32-year-old Michael Preslicka of Wayne Avenue in Iowa City to ten days behind bars and fined him $430.
Iowa City Police say Preslicka was near the intersection of Hollywood Boulevard and Taylor Drive just past 4:45 on the morning of April 27th when officers allegedly observed him in possession of a sword with a blade measuring approximately 28 inches concealed on the back of his jacket.
On October 5th, 2023, Presilicka was convicted of multiple felonies for drugs, theft and forgery. He was given suspended sentences, along with probation of up to three years. Due to the convictions, he is ineligible to carry a dangerous weapon.
Preslicka was charged with Person Ineligible to Carry Dangerous Weapons, a serious misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail, if convicted. He pleaded guilty late last month.
