North Liberty Police have arrested a suspect they say assaulted the mother of his children with a machete.
Officers were called to the Front Street apartment of 24-year-old Jeremiah Minter just before 3:30 Thursday morning for a domestic involving a weapon. The alleged victim claimed Minter had struck her with the machete at least once, causing abrasions to her arm. The woman and Minter share three children and have lived together off-and-on for about six years.
Minter allegedly took the woman’s phone when she tried to call 9-1-1. He reportedly resisted being taken into custody, and a THC vape was reportedly found in his pocket.
Minter is charged with Domestic Abuse Assault With Intent to Cause Serious Injury, Assault on Persons in Certain Occupations, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Obstruction of Emergency Communications, and Public Intoxication. If convicted on all counts, he faces a maximum of over five years in jail.
