An Iowa City woman who reportedly eluded authorities who were attempting a traffic stop faces multiple charges, including OWI.
According to the police report, 65-year-old Jody Phillips of the Cole’s Trailer Park was driving a Chrysler Town & Country van near the intersection of Naples Avenue and Highway 1 just before 2am Friday when an officer discovered her license had been suspended. A traffic stop was attempted, but Phillips allegedly ignored lights and siren and drove on until she stopped at the entrance to Cole’s Mobile Home Park.
Upon contact, Phillips reportedly said she was tired, didn’t want her van towed, and just wanted to home. She allegedly ignored officer commands and had to be taken to the ground to be handcuffed.
Phillips admitted to smoking methamphetamine prior to driving.
A search of the vehicle allegedly turned up a half full bottle of Captain Morgan rum, and three glass pipes used to smoke meth.
After exhibiting signs of intoxication on field testing, Phillips submitted to a PBT and Datamaster. Both showed no alcohol in her system. A urine sample was sent to the lab for testing.
Phillips was charged with OWI 2nd offense, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Eluding, Interference with Official Acts, an Open Container violation, and Driving while Suspended. If convicted on all counts, she could be sentenced to over three years in prison.
