A Cedar Rapids teen who was sentenced to life in prison for killing his parents now wants to be resentenced, alleging that his mother sexually abused him for years.

KGRG TV reports Ethan Orton pleaded guilty in February 2023 to two counts of first-degree murder in the October 2021 killing of Misty Scott-Slade and Casey Orton at their home in the 300 block of Carnaby Drive NE. Police say they found Orton sitting outside of the home covered in blood.

According to new court documents, Orton now alleges that his mother sexually abused him starting when he was nine years old.  He says his mother would walk in on him taking showers and comment on his body, try to sleep in his bed with him, and would make him stay in a dog cage for days if he rejected her sexual advances. Orton also claims that days after he declined his stepmother’s demand to have sex with her, he received an email from his parents, threatening to kick him out of the house when he turned 18.

Police say Orton admitted to stabbing his parents and using an axe on his mother when she survived the initial attack.

He was sentenced to life in prison in June 2023, with eligibility for parole after 50 years due to him being a minor at the time of the crime.

Orton is requesting that he be resentenced given the new information.
