An Iowa City woman faces a felony charge after a reported assault involving a broom and a belt.

Iowa City Police were called to the Keokuk Court residence of 31-year-old Ada Alvira just before 10:30 Saturday night after she reportedly shoved another person to the ground, straddled them, and then started choking them. The strangulation allegedly left a red mark around the person’s neck.

Police say Alvira also struck the other person with a broom and a belt multiple times and drug them by the hair.

Alvira is charged with Willful Injury Causing Bodily Injury. If convicted, she faces a maximum of five years in prison.
