Iowa City Police have arrested a man they say beat a woman to the point of hospitalization.

According to arrest records, 54-year-old Mambu Fulgham of 501 Southgate Avenue hosted the woman at his residence on Tuesday night.  Just after 11:45 he reportedly attacked the woman while several of his friends were present after he questioned her about a previous incident. Fulgham reportedly punched the woman in the head and face for about two or three minutes. He also allegedly said he was going to kill her and was willing to go to jail.

The woman was transported to a hospital for treatment of her injuries. Arriving police asked for Fulgham by name. He allegedly claimed he didn’t know who that was, and that he had already left. A staff member at 501 Southgate then confirmed Fulgham’s identity.

Fulgham is now charged with Assault Causing Bodily Injury, 1st Degree Harassment, Providing False Identity Information, and Harassment of a Public Official. If convicted on all counts, he faces a maximum of over three years in jail.
