A Hope House resident who absconded last weekend is back in custody.
48-year-old Carlos Spencer is accused of walking away from the Coralville halfway house without permission just after 10:45 last Saturday morning. He was discovered missing during an eye count about an hour later, and Spencer can reportedly be seen on security video leaving the property.
Spencer is now charged with Escape From Custody and a parole violation. If convicted, he faces a maximum of five years in prison.
Spencer was sentenced to Hope House after over 360 grams of methamphetamine packaged for sale was found inside his residence in the Hilltop manufactured housing community on Waterfront Drive in 2023.
