A Coralville man who allegedly left the scene of a hit and run accident was charged with his second OWI this past weekend.
According to the arrest report, 36-year-old Andrew Mask of the Western Hills Mobile Home Park was called in as being all over the road and being the run vehicle in a hit-and-run property damage collision near the entrance to Coral Ridge Mall Sunday evening.
Upon contact, drug paraphernalia was reportedly found in the vehicle and on Mask’s person. He allegedly admitted to using heroin the evening before.
Chemical testing showed no alcohol in his bloodstream, and a drug recognition expert determined he was too impaired to drive. A check of Mask’s driving record showed his status as revoked and barred.
Mask was charged with second offense OWI, driving while barred and driving while revoked. If convicted on all counts, he faces a prison sentence of up to four years.
Earlier this year, Mask reached a plea deal with prosecutors on a string of thefts from October of last year. He received an 8-year suspended sentence and two years of probation.
