An Iowa City man was arrested after officers executed a search warrant at his residence and found a large quantity of marijuana.

The Shamrock Place premises of 30-year-old Lavell Barnes was searched Wednesday shortly after 5pm. Inside, Barnes was allegedly found to be in possession of over 515 grams of marijuana packaged separately in 53 baggies, scales, additional packing material, and a large amount of cash.

Barnes reportedly had the odor of marijuana and was detained. When police told him to put his hands behind his back to be handcuffed, he allegedly pulled away despite being told to stop several times.  Barnes reportedly had to be walked to a waiting squad car and had to be forced into the back seat.

He faces a Controlled Substance violation, Failure to Affix Drug Stamp, Keeping Premises for Controlled Substances and Interference with Official Acts charges.  If convicted on all counts, Barnes faces a possible prison sentence of up to over 12 years.
