US Representative Mariannette Miller-Meeks has changed her voter registration from Scott County back to her Ottumwa home.
The Gazette reports Miller-Meeks was first elected to Congress in 2020, representing a district that included her home in Wapello County. During redistricting after the 2020 Census, Ottumwa became part of the 3rd district, while much of Miller-Meeks’ former district became part of the new 1st district.
She took up residency in Scott County and eventually rented a Davenport apartment, using that address to register.
Wapello County records show Miller-Meeks changed her voter registration on July 11th. Federal rules don’t require members of Congress to live in the district they represent.
In an e-mail to the newspaper, campaign spokesperson Peter Owens said she moved her residency back to their property in Ottumwa to be by her husband’s side. The couple own 33 acres of land there.
