The Iowa City Municipal Airport says the installation of a solar array has saved the facility in energy costs.
In a Facebook post, the airport says after 12 months, runway lighting costs have been reduced by 93 percent, while Building D and North T-hangars have reduced their energy costs by 62 percent.
Overall, the facility has saved $12,600 over the past 12 months and have a $3000 credit to use over the winter from summertime over-production.
The savings represents over half of their $20,200-plus electrical bill budget in 2024.
