A suspect is accused of crashing his car into his own house while being chased by Iowa City Police.
According to arrest records, Iowa City Police attempted a traffic stop on a Nissan Rogue travelling on Muscatine Avenue just after 4:30 Friday afternoon. The driver, 37-year-old Reginald Payne, has a barred and suspended license. Officers followed him inside, and Payne was eventually taken into custody after he allegedly fought with police.
A search of the Nissan reportedly turned up four packages of marijuana. A search warrant executed on the house allegedly turned up a .25 caliber pistol, more marijuana, amphetamines, and ten ecstasy pills.
Payne is now charged with two Controlled Substance Violations, two counts each of Assault on Persons in Certain Occupations, Failure to Affix a Drug Tax Stamp and Interference With Official Acts, and one count each of Eluding, Dominion or Control of a Weapon by a Felon, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Driving While Suspended, and Driving While Barred. If convicted on all counts, he faces a maximum of over 43 years in prison.
