An Iowa City man who allegedly drove away from a traffic stop last week was arrested two days later.
40-year-old Lonnie Clark of Aber Avenue was stopped near the intersection of Centro Way and North Dubuque Road Wednesday evening for allegedly going 54 miles per hour in a 35 mile per hour zone. During the subsequent traffic stop, Clark was reportedly observed with a clear bag hanging out of his stocking cap. When the officer asked him to identify the bag, Clark allegedly threw his cap off and said it was nothing. After further questions, Clark put his truck in drive and tried to leave the scene. The officer told him to stop and told him the traffic stop was not over, but Clark allegedly drove away from the stop.
A warrant was issued for his arrest, and police caught up with him Friday night near the intersection of 1st Street and 4th Avenue in Iowa City. When an officer tried to make contact with him, Clark ran away on foot before he was apprehended. A search of his vehicle and coat reportedly turned up drug paraphernalia and a stolen electric bicycle valued at $3500 in the truck bed.
Clark now faces two counts of interference with official acts, possession of drug paraphernalia, and 2nd degree Theft. If convicted on all charges, he faces a possible prison sentence of over five years.
