The union representing ECHL players has voted to strike if a new collective bargaining agreement isn’t reached by the end of the week.
The Professional Hockey Players Association says its members voted last Friday to strike following the ECHL holiday break…which is scheduled to end on Friday…if the two sides can’t come to terms.
The league says in a news release that its latest offer includes raising the salary cap 16.4% this season, with retroactive pay upon ratification, and increases in total player salaries in future years to pay players nearly 27% more than the current cap. The league adds it has also offered larger per diems, mandatory day-off requirements and a 325-mile limit for travel between back-to-back games.
Iowa Heartlanders team officials told KCJJ they are still planning on hosting Bloomington Friday night at 7, then hitting the road for games against the Bison Saturday night at 7 and Sunday afternoon at 4. Those two road games, if played, can be heard on The Home of the Heartlanders, The Mighty 1630 KCJJ.
