A Tiffin man was taken into custody Sunday night after an alleged assault on his live-in partner.

Police say 35-year-old Jhonny Fuentes-Contreras threw glassware at the victim, which shattered and cut the victim’s finger.  Fuentes-Contreras had the victim’s phone and reportedly refused to allow her to have the phone to call police.

Two of the couple’s minor children were present during the assault.

Fuentes-Contreras was located outside of the apartment complex in a parking lot, where he allegedly was observed with the strong odor of ingested alcohol.  He reportedly admitted to drinking.

Fuentes-Contreras was charged with Domestic Abuse Assault causing Injury, Obstruction of Emergency Communications, Child Endangerment, and Public Intoxication. If convicted on all counts, he faces a prison sentence of up to over three years.

A no-contact order was requested between the couple and granted by Judge Brandon Schrock on Monday.
