A Nebraska man is accused of using a U-Haul and a chain to drag an ATM out of an Iowa City convenience store.

43-year-old Darnell Gordon of Omaha was booked into the Johnson County Jail just after 3:45 Friday afternoon. Iowa City Police say Gordon was one of several subjects who rented a U-Haul and a passenger car, forced entry into Urban Fuel on Moss Ridge Road at about 3:15 on the morning of August 3rd, attached a chain to the ATM, and pulled it out of the store. The ATM was loaded into the U-Haul and removed from thescene. The estimated $4,000 inside the ATM was never recovered.

Cellphone records, Google searches, and other evidence allegedly placed Gordon at the scene. Investigators say the scheme was at least partially organized by Gordon.

Gordon is charged with 3rd Degree Burglary and 2nd Degree Theft. If convicted on both counts, he faces a maximum of ten years in prison.
