A Jasper County man faces charges that he fired a gun outside of an Iowa City home Saturday afternoon.
57-year-old Henry Vanrees of Reasnor was booked into the Johnson County Jail just before 7:15 Saturday night. Iowa City Police say Vanrees showed up unannounced at the 420th Street residence of his wife and mother of his children just after 2:15 p.m. and started a confrontation. Vanrees allegedly threatened to return and murder everyone at the house. Police say they were unable to catch Vanrees during an ensuing vehicle pursuit.
The homeowner reports hearing three “pops” while Vanrees was present, and two shell casings were found in the driveway.
Vanrees is charged with Going Armed With Intent, Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon, 1st Degree Harassment, and Domestic Abuse Using a Weapon. If convicted on all counts, he faces a maximum of 22 years in prison.
