A Cedar Rapids man who reportedly at an Air BNB marijuana party back in 2024 has been arrested in connection with the incident.

According to the criminal complaint, 22-year-old Shevell Ash of Dover Street NE was present at the February 17th party promoted on social media as featuring marijuana.  Officers were called to the party and Ash allegedly fled the area in a vehicle, but was stopped by the Iowa State Patrol.

Officers recovered over 160 grams of marijuana at the residence where the party took place, as well as four firearms.  An investigation determined that Ash was seen in several social media pictures and videos holding a firearm at the party.  The firearm was a Glock 19 with an attachment that turned the semi-automatic firearm into a fully automatic machine gun.

Ash reportedly left the weapon behind when he fled. A search of social media allegedly found Ash in photographs of another Glock with a gold-colored extended magazine.  That firearm was also left at the party and recovered by law enforcement.  A check found that it was listed as stolen.

Investigators reviewed Ash’s social media messages prior to the party, and showed that he was advertising a Glock 19 for sale.

A check of Ash’s criminal record showed weapon and domestic abuse convictions.

A warrant was issued on December 2nd, and Ash was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon. He faces two counts each of dominion or control of a firearm by a felon and dominion or control of a weapon by a domestic abuser. He was also charged with unauthorized possession of offensive weapons and trafficking in stolen weapons.  If convicted on all charges, Ash could be sentenced to up to 30 years in prison.
