A Texas man who reportedly crashed his vehicle into Ralston Creek on Chistmas morning has been arrested on an OWI charge.
Police say 26-year-old Robert Navarrette of El Paso was in a GMC truck at around 2:30am on the 700 block of South Gilbert Street when he crashed into the creek after reportedly driving off the railroad tracks. Upon contact, he allegedly showed signs of intoxication including bloodshot watery eyes and a strong odor of ingested alcohol.
Navarette reportedly had open alcohol containers in the vehicle and admitted to drinking and being impaired. He agreed to a blood sample, and when the results showed his alcohol level over the legal limit to drive, a warrant was requested.
Navarette was taken into custody Sunday and charged with 2nd offense OWI, an aggravated misdemeanor punishable by a jail sentence of up to two years if convicted.
