Area Venezuelan immigrants are reacting to this weekend’s capture of President Nicolas Maduro by the Trump administration.

KCRG TV talked to Ruby Caceres, who immigrated to the US from the country in 2022.  She said she’s concerned for her family, who still lives in the country, and lived in fear under Maduro.

Caceres told the TV Station, “they kidnap you if you say something, Maybe kill you if you express your opinion against the government.”

She said she feels a sense of satisfaction that Maduro is out, but unsure about what’s next for Venezuela now that President Trump says he plans to run the country. Caceres said it’s like trading one dictator for another.

She remains concerned for her family members still in the country. Caceres says they’re homebound and afraid to go to work or school.

Dozens of protesters gathered in Iowa City over the weekend to express their concerns about what they called an “unauthorized war.”
