An arrest has been made in an Iowa City bank robbery case.
42-year-old Antoinne Davis of Davenport was booked into the Johnson County Jail just before 10:15 Friday night. Iowa City Police say Davis entered Hills Bank on Muscatine Avenue just after 10:15 Friday morning with his face covered, wearing gloves and holding a bag. Davis allegedly told two different tellers to give him cash, and reportedly took the cash of a customer off of a counter. A total of $14, 676 was reported stolen.
A search warrant executed on Davis’ residence reportedly turned up large sums of cash and the clothing the suspect was wearing in video of the robbery.
Davis allegedly admitted to committing the robbery to repay a debt. He has two previous federal robbery convictions, and is still on probation for one of them. In 2014 Davis was accused of robbing the Hills Bank branch in Hills. Upon his arrest, the former resident of the Town & Campus Apartments on Arthur Street reportedly admitted to other robberies at the Muscatine Avenue Hills Bank branch he allegedly hit again on Friday morning and the former University of Iowa Community Credit Union location on Muscatine Avenue. Those charges were later dismissed.
Davis is now charged with 2nd Degree Robbery. If convicted, he faces a maximum of ten years in prison.
