An assault suspect is accused of resisting Iowa City Police who tried taking him into custody.
Officers report encountering 30-year-old Marvin Wright of Cross Park Avenue at Falbo Brothers Pizza on South Gilbert Street just before 2:00 Saturday morning. Wright was wanted for allegedly starting a physical altercation at Elray’s Live & Dive on Iowa Avenue just before 1:15 on the morning of September 28th. The fight began as a dispute over a booth. Video of the incident reportedly shows Wright punching another person in the back of the head three times, leading to the victim being evaluated for a concussion at a local hospital.
Wright reportedly tried pulling away from the officers who tried to take him into custody Saturday morning at Falbo’s. Police say Wright, who also lists a home address in Tiffin, continued resisting arrest despite being taken to the ground and held up against a car. He’s now charged with Assault Causing Bodily Injury and Interference With Official Acts. If convicted on both counts, he faces a maximum of 13 months in jail.
