The Muscatine County Sheriff’s office says several residents have been the victim of a telephone scam.

The sheriff’s office reports that three different individuals arrived at the Walnut Street station Wednesday afternoon advising they were called by a male claiming to be a sergeant from the Muscatine County Sheriff’s Office.  The male advised the individuals they had a warrant out for their arrest and had to appear in-person at the sheriff’s office. One individual was spoken to about paying $5,000.

The phone number showed up on the victims’ cellphones as “Unknown”.  The Muscatine County Sheriff’s office says the call is a scam.  Anyone who gets a similar call is advised to call the real sheriff’s office at 563-263-6055.

The sheriff’s office adds to never agree to meeting someone you don’t know or allowing a stranger to come to your home for payment. Also do not provide any personal or banking information.
