Iowa House Democrats are outlining their goals for the 2026 legislative session.

One of their proposals is to more-than-double the minimum wage, from $7.25 to $15.00. The proposal also includes 12 weeks of paid family leave.

State Representative Larry McBurney says the state can also pick up the ACA subsidies that expired at the end of last year by using the voucher program Governor Reynolds is using for private school education.

Among the other proposals are a freeze on electric and gas rates through 2030, an expansion of access to retirement savings plans, and additional assistance to first-time homebuyers.
