Iowa City Police have arrested a local resident they saw assaulted two downtown Iowa City bar employees.
According to arrest records, 19-year-old Mutaman Elawad of Arch Rock Road was inside the new Fieldhouse on South Clinton Street when he punched a staff member in the head just after 11:30 Saturday night. Police say he fled the scene, then returned just before 1:00 Sunday morning and punched another staffer in the head as he was trying to get back inside.
Elawad was arrested and reportedly told police he had to “throw hands”. He allegdly had a THC vape in his pocket.
Elawad is charged with two counts of Assault Causing Injury and one count each of Possession of Marijuana, Public Intoxication, and being in a bar while underage. If convicted on all counts, he could face over three years in jail.
