An Iowa City man was arrested Tuesday night after switching seats with his passenger in an attempt to get out of a moving violation.

Police stopped a 2005 Ford pickup at around 8pm on Eastbrook Court due to inoperable brake lights.  A check of the license plate registration showed the plates were for a Chevy, and a stop was initiated.

The truck quickly pulled into a parking lot, and the officer allegedly saw the driver, 28-year-old Sheridan Duffield of Keokuk Street, switch seats with the front passenger. The passenger, a woman, and Duffield denied switching but under Miranda the woman admitted that they had.

A check of Duffield’s driving record showed a status of barred, revoked and suspended. He was charged with Interference with Official Acts , Driving while Barred, and Driving while Revoked. If convicted on all counts, he faces a prison sentence of up to over three years.
