The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office says a motorist was armed and intoxicated as he speeding along Highway 218 early Saturday morning.
A deputy pulled over a southbound 2023 Honda Civic that was clocked at 94 miles per hour in a 65 mile per hour zone about a mile north of the Melrose Avenue exit just after 1:30 Saturday morning. The driver, 19-year-old Carson Putney of Wever, Iowa, reportedly showed signs of intoxication, had open containers of alcohol inside the vehicle, and had a breath alcohol level of .120%. Investigators say a handgun was found within reach of Putney’s arm.
Putney was arrested and charged with Operating While Intoxicated, Possession of a Firearm While Intoxicated, and Speeding. If convicted on all counts, he faces a maximum sentence of two years in jail.
