Hundreds of people took to the Pentacrest on Sunday to protest the recent actions of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE, including the killing of 37-year-old Alex Pretti, a VA ICU nurse who was shot while recording ICE agents on his phone in Minneapolis on Saturday. An ICE agent in Minneapolis also shot and killed 37-year-old Renee Good in her car on January 7th.
The Iowa City wind chill on Sunday never got above zero. But that didn’t keep scores of local residents from singing songs, engaging in chants and ringing bells at the rally.
One target of Sunday’s protest was local Congressional Representative Mariannette Miller-Meeks, who voted to increase ICE funding last year.
Similar “ICE Out for Good” rallies were held nationwide.
