A Cedar Rapids man is accused of attacking an Iowa City woman while wielding a knife.
Iowa City Police say just after 4:45 Friday morning 32-year-old Ward Taylor of 10th Street SE entered an apartment at 501 Southgate Avenue, grabbed a knife, and sat down next to his alleged victim. Taylor reportedly told the woman that one of them wasn’t going to make it out of the apartment alive. The woman fled the residence, but police say Taylor put the knife in his pocket and followed her outside. The woman threw a glass at Taylor and ran back into the apartment. Taylor allegedly lunged at her with the knife in his hand, but a witness was able to restrain him while she closed the door before Taylor could get back inside.
Taylor is charged with Domestic Abuse Assault While Displaying a Weapon. If convicted, he faces up to two years in jail. Taylor is also wanted by the Linn County Sheriff’s Office.
