About one-hundred Iowa City-area bicyclists took part in a memorial ride Saturday afternoon in honor of Alex Pretti, the 37-year-old Minneapolis VA ICU nurse who was killed by a federal Border Patrol agent last weekend. The bicyclists endured frigid temperatures for the five-mile jaunt.

According to a news release from the Iowa City Bike Library…which sponsored the ride…Pretti’s killing has been widely mourned, and cyclists across the country are honoring him with rides and gatherings this weekend.

The Iowa City Federation of Labor is holding a candlelight vigil for Pretti tonight outside the VA Hospital on Highway 6 West. That event gets underway at 5 p.m.
