An Iowa City man was arrested after a probation visit to his residence reportedly turned up illegal drugs.
A home visit was conducted Friday at the Ellis Avenue residence of 37-year-old Clifton Carter. Officers allegedly could smell the odor of marijuana before entering the residence, and Carter reportedly admitted using marijuana within the residence the day before. He also alleged that nothing would be observed or found in the residence.
However, a search warrant was obtained and officers found amounts of marijuana, amounts of cocaine, a small scale with a white powdery substance.
Carter was charged with marijuana possession third or subsequent offense; keeping premises for controlled substances; and possession of a controlled substance 3rd or subsequent offense. If convicted on those charges, he faces up to 9 years in prison.
