Iowa Democrats held caucuses across the state earlier this week, and began preparing arguments to restore their first-in-the-nation status for the 2028 political season.

KCRG TV reports The Democratic National Committee’s Rules and Bylaws Committee agreed this past weekend to hear arguments for reinstating Iowa as the first caucus state. Iowa lost its traditional opening position after technical problems during previous caucuses led the National Democratic Committee to remove the first-in-the-nation status.

Should the DNC deny Iowa’s bid, they could still hold their caucuses first with presidential preference cards, but could lose delegate seats at the national convention.

Other states, including Michigan and Illinois, are also vying for the first position.  It hasn’t been announced when Iowa Democrats will present its case to national party leaders.
