Iowa City Police have arrested a man they say tried to illegally purchase a firearm.

52-year-old Courtney Morris of Indigo Drive was booked into the Johnson County Jail just before 8:30 Friday morning. Police say Morris can be seen on video at Fin & Feather on Highway 1 West trying to purchase a firearm on the morning of January 6th. Morris was convicted of two felonies in Missouri in 2015, making him ineligible to purchase a gun. He reportedly admitted to trying to buy the weapon, and to checking the box on the ATF firearms form indicating he has no felony convictions on his record.

Morris is charged with Providing False Information in Acquiring a Weapon. If convicted, he faces a maximum of five years in prison.
